The former Burderop Hospital site at Wroughton, in Swindon Borough south of the town, carried two Hewlett-Packard data centres from the 1990s until 2020. Amazon Data Services UK holds the consent to replace them, granted by Swindon Borough Council in August 2021: four single-storey data halls 12.3 m high, drawing 27 MW through a direct National Grid connection with medium-voltage transformers on site, and standing by on 11 diesel generators and a 40,000-litre fuel store. The ground sits in the North Wessex Downs AONB beside an SSSI, and the permission carries a BREEAM Excellent requirement.
