About West Virginia Internet Exchange

WVIX was set up in 2023 as a 501(c)(6) non-profit and charges nothing at all: membership and ports are both free, with the exchange funded instead by donations of colocation space, equipment and transport. It runs from Citynet in the Charleston-Huntington metro and from East Kentucky Network, which carries it into central and eastern Kentucky. Eligibility is broad — ISPs, content providers, enterprises, schools and government entities. Applications go through the operator's support portal, and both bilateral and route-server peering are supported.
