REN Telecom runs four data centres in Portugal and Ermesinde is the northern one, in Valongo in the Porto district, sited at the national transmission operator's own Ermesinde substation. The company has been a licensed public telecommunications operator since 1 November 2002 and sells data centre services as a neutral provider, carrying its fibre on the electricity and gas transmission corridors: some 8,100 km of cable, more than 200 access points and seven crossings at the borders. Ermesinde is the small end of that estate. Under Decreto-Lei 84/2024, which transposes the European energy efficiency directive, REN Telecom reports one site only - Datacenter Riba de Ave, 1,085 kW of installed IT power across 1,232 m2 of computer room, in service since February 2018 - which places Ermesinde below the 500 kW threshold that triggers disclosure. The Uptime Institute Tier III design and constructed-facility awards REN holds cover Riba de Ave, Step 5, in Vila Nova de Famalicão.
