Building 8 is the last of the eight Crusoe committed to in March 2025, when it took the Abilene campus to roughly four million sq ft and 1.2 GW. Crusoe develops the site, Oracle leases it and OpenAI is the end user, which is why the campus travels under the Stargate name; Crusoe publishes campus totals and does not name buildings individually. The first two were energised late in 2025 at 200 to 300 MW combined, four of the eight were reckoned complete by April 2026, and the remainder are targeted for the end of that year with closeout in early 2027. DPR Construction holds the current phase, with up to 5,000 workers on site at peak. Power comes from Oncor, from GE Vernova gas turbines fitted with selective catalytic reduction, and from batteries, behind a 200 MW 138 kV substation that Mortenson built between 2022 and 2024.
