About MadIX

MadIX was set up in early 2000 by the University of Wisconsin-Madison's IT division so local providers could peer in the city, and the university still runs it from 222 West Washington and its own computer sciences data centre. 28 organisations participate, among them WiscNet, the state university network, Charter, US Signal and Hurricane Electric. Ports are 1G and 10G. There are no route servers: the operator states that peering is bilateral only and that participants make their own routing decisions. Joining means emailing the network services team with an AS number, organisation and preferred location.
