UltraDNS (AS12008)

UltraDNS (AS12008) is authoritative managed DNS, and it has changed hands twice in two years without changing its name. Neustar's security division was separated and rebranded Vercara in April 2023, and DigiCert completed its purchase of Vercara in September 2024. The service is still sold as UltraDNS on DigiCert's own pages, now paired with a second and deliberately separate anycast network marketed for continuity. The system dates to 1999 and its prefixes are almost entirely anycast service addresses.

Two things are worth knowing before planning around finding it on a facility list. The scrubbing sold alongside it — more than fifteen terabits across six regions, diverted by routing change or by DNS — does not run on this system at all but on a separate one, so this record describes the DNS network only. And this network barely interconnects: its public exchange presence amounts to a single gigabit port on a small Pacific fabric, and it reaches everyone else through a couple of transit providers. What it offers instead is a resolution availability commitment written as 100%, which is the number the service is actually sold on.
