PacketFabric (AS1828) operates a software-defined interconnect fabric over a private optical backbone of more than 65 Tbps, with ports in carrier-neutral colocation facilities across the major US markets and international reach extended through the Unitas Global network it merged with in 2023. It sells port-to-port and point-to-point Ethernet virtual circuits, data centre interconnect, dedicated and hosted connections to AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, IBM and Oracle, a virtual cloud router for multicloud routing, exchange access and Internet transit.

What separates AS1828 for a colocation customer is how capacity is bought: a circuit is ordered from a portal, an API or Terraform and turns up in minutes, billed per gigabyte, hourly or on a term of up to three years. Ports are 1G, 10G, 40G and 100G on single-mode fibre with 9,000-byte frames and LACP where the edge supports it, and virtual circuits run from 50 Mbps to 100 Gbps. That fits connecting a cage to a cloud on-ramp, or to a second site, without committing to a long contract to find out whether the path is right.
