AS20189 is the autonomous system behind Akamai Direct Connect, a private on-ramp that carries a customer's origin traffic into Akamai's platform instead of pulling it across the public internet. It announces no routes, and that is what it should do — the sessions are private customer attachments rather than transit or peering, so nothing appears in the global routing table. Akamai's own configuration examples tell customers to peer with this number.

It is available by cross-connect only, at the facilities Akamai lists for it, and has no presence at any internet exchange — so unlike the rest of Akamai's network, the building genuinely determines whether you can use it at all. Ports are 10G or 100G on long-reach single-mode optics, aggregated, and the customer must hold a public autonomous system number and its own address space. Interconnection requires an Akamai contract: this is a product to buy, not settlement-free peering. For peering with Akamai's delivery network the target is AS20940 instead.
