BT (AS5400)

AS5400 is BT's international IP backbone, operated by BT Business and separate from the autonomous systems carrying its UK access network. It runs Internet Connect Global and BT Wholesale dedicated Internet access, and underpins IP Connect Global, the MPLS IP VPN BT reaches more than 200 countries with through over 5,000 points of presence. Alongside Internet service BT sells Ethernet private line and E-LAN, optical wavelengths, cloud connectivity, SD-WAN and SASE, with DDoS protection as an option.

In a colocation context AS5400 is most often the Internet or VPN handoff for a multinational already buying managed wide-area networking from BT, rather than a wholesale transit purchase made on price. Internet access on the network is published at Ethernet speeds up to 10G, with BGP available to customers running their own AS number, a documented community set for announcement control, and RPKI-invalid prefixes rejected. It fits enterprises consolidating global sites, in-country support and voice onto a single incumbent supplier.
