Orange (AS5511)

AS5511 is Orange's international IP backbone, sold by Orange Wholesale International under the Opentransit name and separate from the enterprise services Orange Business provides. It runs across more than 250 points of presence over 40-plus subsea cable systems covering 450,000 km, plus 45,000 km of terrestrial fibre, with particularly strong positions in Europe, the Mediterranean and Africa. Alongside IP transit it sells Ethernet virtual private line, international private line, wavelengths and managed optical fibre, dark fibre, cloud connectivity and tiered DDoS protection.

Marseille and the African routes are why most colocation customers reach for AS5511, and it is on-net in carrier-neutral facilities across Europe to serve them. Transit ports are 10GE, 100GE and 400GE, with native 400G now across most European sites, published communities for local preference and prepending, blackholing, and RPKI validation applied to customer and peer routes. It suits service providers and content networks pushing traffic into Africa and the Middle East who would otherwise buy that reach as a wholesale add-on.
