About Fiji-IXP
Fiji-IXP is the country's national exchange, operated by the Telecommunications Authority of Fiji as part of its regulatory remit rather than as a commercial venture. The operator states it began with four providers and now has seven members peering to the exchange switch: Vodafone Fiji, Digicel Fiji, Telecom Fiji, FINTEL, the University of the South Pacific, Fiji National University and the state broadcaster WALESI — both mobile carriers, the fixed incumbent, the international cable landing operator, both national universities and the state broadcaster on one fabric. The regulator reports domestic latency between local operators falling from about 60 ms to about 2 ms once traffic stopped hairpinning offshore.
