About IXP Namibia
The Windhoek Internet Exchange Point is Namibia's national exchange, launched on 7 March 2014 and run by a non-profit association set up specifically to manage the fabric under a multi-stakeholder governance model. It came out of the African Internet Exchange System programme run jointly by the African Union and the Internet Society, which trained sixteen engineers in March 2013 ahead of the launch, and five providers were exchanging traffic on the opening day. Both of Namibia's principal carriers hold the two largest ports at 10G — Telecom Namibia and Mobile Telecommunications Ltd — with Paratus Africa, Africa Online and Packet Clearing House alongside them, for 23 Gbps in total.
