Carbon capture is the premise of the Casper project rather than an addition to it. Prometheus Hyperscale announced it on 7 October 2025 with Spiritus and Casper Carbon Capture: Spiritus is to supply firm on-site power through its Orchard Power platform, natural gas generation carrying both point-source and direct air capture, while Casper Carbon Capture contributes land, rights of way and access to permitted CO2 sequestration wells in Natrona and Converse Counties. The minimum initial investment is $500 million. Capacity is given two ways by the developer - up to 1.5 GW of IT-ready capacity over multiple phases in the announcement, and 1.25 GW on the projects page, where the site is called the Wyoming Expansion Site. Cooling is planned as proprietary aquifer, non-consumptive water cooling, and first IT-ready power was targeted for 2026. The developer was Wyoming Hyperscale until 4 September 2024; Bernard Looney, formerly chief executive of bp, became its chairman that November and chief executive on 31 March 2026.
