Atlas Power Willinston
5046 143rd Ave NW, Williston, ND, 58801, US
Williams County cut the power to this site's construction in June 2023, six weeks after issuing a 45-day order to rectify building code violations, and Atlas Power went on to pay 232,000 dollars in fines before a temporary certificate of occupancy was granted. Residents near the site sued over noise the same year, and settlement agreements went out to them on 13 March 2026. The plant itself has run since 2022 on bitcoin mining and GPU workloads, west of Williston, and it was Mountrail-Williams Electric Cooperative that brought its 200 MW online - a Basin Electric member inside the SPP footprint, where the load was heavy enough that Basin was working on a 600 MW addition to relieve congestion. Full build is projected at 700 MW against a stated project value of 1.9 billion dollars. Governor Doug Burgum announced the project on 26 January 2022. FX Solutions of Montana built it; Atlas Power, of Butte, owns and runs it along with a 75 MW site in its home town.
