The build worth knowing about is the Northern Link, a 2,100-mile subterranean route running from Portland and Seattle through Spokane, Montana and Minneapolis into Chicago, which went live in April 2026 at a measured 39.5 milliseconds round trip between Seattle and Chicago. Its value is diversity — a path away from the commodity routes that share wildfire and storm exposure.
