AS36351 is IBM Cloud's public-facing autonomous system, carrying internet traffic for both its classic infrastructure and its virtual private cloud. The registered name still reads SoftLayer — the brand IBM acquired in 2013 and retired into IBM Cloud in October 2017 — but the registry ownership record now says IBM Cloud, and the network is actively maintained. It announces around 340 prefixes and buys transit from a broad set of Tier 1 carriers.

The important distinction on a facility list is that this is not the system a private on-ramp connects to. Reaching it shortens the path to IBM Cloud workloads, but an IBM Cloud Direct Link session establishes BGP against a separate autonomous system that never appears in the global routing table, and AS36351 sits on the explicit list of customer numbers Direct Link will not accept. Direct Link itself is available at named locations across the Americas, Europe and Asia-Pacific, at 1, 2, 5 and 10 gigabit on a dedicated cross-connect or from 50 Mbps to 5 Gbps through a partner, with encryption and jumbo frames on the dedicated variant — so which of the two paths a tenant can actually use comes down to the building.
