About ONIX

ONIX is a free, neutral exchange for Ontario, with no port fees or dues, concentrated at Toronto's 151 Front Street West inside Equinix TR1 and Telehouse and extended to Equinix TR2 on Parliament Street. 200 members peer (Aug 2026) on more than 1.5 Tbps of peering capacity, with IPv6 adoption at 98%, among the highest of any North American exchange. Full fibre ports run 10G to 100G, while sponsor VLANs let small networks join at 100M or 1G through an existing participant's port, removing the cross-connect barrier. Route servers run under AS57369 on paired 10G connections, and the operator publishes a public IXP Manager instance for transparency. Joining is a web form, choosing a fibre or sponsor-VLAN connection and agreeing to the usage policies, with no fees at any step.
