Announced on 6 January 2026, MEL2 is AirTrunk's second Melbourne campus, at 85-95 Sharps Road in Tullamarine beside Melbourne Airport - a different corridor from MEL1, which sits at 176 Swann Drive in Derrimut in the city's west. The company has committed A$5 billion directly to the build, planned for more than 354 MW, which would lift its Melbourne capacity past 630 MW. Construction is phased and the first phase is targeted to be operational in the second half of 2027. AirTrunk has been owned by Blackstone with CPP Investments since a roughly A$24 billion acquisition completed in December 2024.
