Alibaba Zhangbei Yun CDC I
No.s10, Rangsheng West Road, Zhangjiakou, 076471, CN
Alibaba Cloud's Zhangbei estate occupies two parks in Zhangbei County, north-west of Zhangjiakou in Hebei: Miaotan and Xiao'ertai. Seven projects were committed there under a 2015 agreement with the county, at a combined RMB 45 billion; five are in operation and two are still being built, making this the largest cloud data centre estate running in China. More than 380,000 servers are installed, against a stated target above one million. Full-immersion liquid cooling and the plateau climate hold the design annual PUE at 1.25, with a floor of 1.13.

Frequently asked questions
Which parks make up the Zhangbei estate?
Two: Miaotan and Xiao'ertai, both in Zhangbei County. Uptime Institute's Management and Operations stamp names the Miaotan site specifically.
How efficient is the Zhangjiakou campus?
Designed to an annual PUE of 1.25 with a minimum of 1.13. Roughly fifteen days a year need compressor cooling, cooling energy is down 59 per cent on conventional designs, and Alibaba puts renewable use above half.
What recognition has Uptime Institute given the site?
A Management and Operations Stamp of Approval for the Zhangbei-Miaotan data centre, which assesses how a site is run rather than how it was engineered. It is not a Tier certification, and Alibaba holds no Tier award for Zhangbei.
How does Zhangbei figure for a buyer scouting Hebei?
As Alibaba's own capacity rather than a landlord's. The group built the parks for its cloud platform, so capacity there is taken as Alibaba Cloud service; the campus is the anchor of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei cloud corridor and the reference point for what else gets built nearby.
