Katrineholm is the one Swedish availability-zone site AWS singles out for its steel: the company stated in November 2024 that every structural open section going into the buildings there comes from scrap-melted low-carbon steel. The town in Södermanland has hosted AWS since the Europe (Stockholm) region opened in December 2018, and that same month Amazon bought a further 210,000 m² from Katrineholms kommun for SEK 52.5m, taking a holding the municipality likened to forty football pitches. The original hall occupies about 77,000 m². In June 2025 AWS broke ground on a $4m wetland and water-replenishment scheme at Stora Djulö, run with Sörmlands Vatten.
