Cogent's Spanish site is 500 m² on the Red Eléctrica substation ground at Majuelos Nuevos, in the San Sebastián de los Reyes corridor north of central Madrid. Sitting on a transmission operator's own substation compound is unusual and it is the most interesting thing about the building — grid supply does not get closer to source than that. Inside, two 400 kVA UPS units feed the floor as separate A and B paths, cooling is a chilled-water plant with two 280 kW chillers and eight interior units, and fire protection uses inert gas with a preaction sprinkler system. Madrid is the interconnection centre of Iberia and the principal European exchange point for Latin American traffic.
