Grand Forks is the only North Dakota entry in Core Scientific's portfolio of ten data centres across seven states, and one of its densest: 100 MW on 20 acres and 90,000 sq ft at 5601 11th Avenue South. Nodak Electric Cooperative is the serving utility, named against the site's 100 MW in the company's Form 10-K for FY2025 filed on 2 March 2026, with wholesale power from Minnkota Power Cooperative - a lignite-heavy mix drawn from the Milton R. Young Station, with wind and Garrison Dam hydro behind it, and a rate structure that rewards loads above 20 MW. The site was commissioned in November 2021 and reached full operating capacity in March 2022, and the 10-K still classifies its use as digital asset self-mining, even though Core Scientific has said it intends to convert every megawatt it holds to high-density colocation within three years. The company filed for Chapter 11 on 21 December 2022 and emerged on 23 January 2024, relisting on Nasdaq as CORZ. CoreWeave's roughly $9 billion all-stock bid was voted down by Core Scientific stockholders on 30 October 2025 and the merger agreement terminated the same day, so the operator here is Core Scientific, independent.

Frequently asked questions

Which utility serves the Grand Forks site?
Nodak Electric Cooperative, named against the site's 100 MW in Core Scientific's FY2025 Form 10-K, with wholesale power from Minnkota Power Cooperative. The generation mix is roughly 55 per cent lignite from the Milton R. Young Station, 34 per cent wind and 8 per cent hydro from Garrison Dam.
What is the site used for today?
Digital asset self-mining, as classified in the FY2025 Form 10-K. Core Scientific has stated an intention to convert its whole portfolio to high-density colocation over three years, but has published no customer, contract or conversion date for this site.
Which company owns the site after the CoreWeave bid?
Core Scientific, which remains independent. Stockholders voted down the roughly $9 billion all-stock merger on 30 October 2025 and the agreement was terminated that day; the shares trade on Nasdaq as CORZ.
When did Core Scientific come out of bankruptcy?
23 January 2024, the plan effective date reported in its Form 8-K of the same day, after filing Chapter 11 in the Southern District of Texas on 21 December 2022.
How does Grand Forks compare with the rest of the portfolio?
It is the sole North Dakota facility among ten sites in seven states holding about 1.4 GW of gross utility power and about 920 MW of leasable customer power. At 100 MW on 20 acres and 90,000 sq ft it carries more power per acre than most of them.
