Hydrogen is the primary power source at this Santa Clara project, not the backup. ECL announced it on 21 April 2026 as a 35 MW facility phased up from an initial 2.5 MW deployment, assembled from the company's modular ECL Block in increments of 1 to 2 MW and running on what it calls FlexGrid: grid electricity, natural gas, hydrogen fuel cells and battery storage, with no diesel generators in the design. Racks are specified from 75 kW to 270 kW at launch, against a target PUE below 1.15. Freshwater draw is nil, because where hydrogen is the source the by-product water from generation feeds the cooling loop. PowerCell Sweden placed its first commercial multi-megawatt stationary order behind the build, SEK 30m of PS190 systems for delivery by the end of 2026, with a non-binding memorandum covering roughly 300 MW more. ECL has proved the approach at MV-1 in Mountain View, live since 2024 at 1 MW.
