Bandon on the southern Oregon coast is the United States landing point for the FASTER trans-Pacific cable — the Google-led system running to Chikura and Shima in Japan and onward to Taiwan — and Lumen operates the landing station for it. That is an unusual thing to be able to buy space in. A separate and larger AT&T station on the same road serves older trans-Pacific systems, so the town carries more than one landing and they are physically distinct facilities. Equipment placed at a cable landing sits where international capacity comes ashore and is handed to terrestrial networks, a position no inland facility substitutes for.
