500 MW

Project Jupiter is an energy scheme first and a data centre second. On a former military airfield at Lichterfeld-Schacksdorf, near Finsterwalde in the Elbe-Elster district of southern Brandenburg, WBS Power and Prime Capital AG are jointly developing what is described as Germany's largest co-located battery and solar project: 500 MW of storage rated at 2,000 MWh, with up to 150 MWp of photovoltaics beside it, tied into a 380 kV line operated by 50Hertz. Around €500 million is attached to the energy assets alone. A hyperscale data centre of up to 500 MW is planned to sit alongside them and draw on the same connection. WBS Power bought the land in 2022, the venture runs through Jupiter JVCo S.à r.l. in Luxembourg, and construction of the energy assets is anticipated for late 2026 or early 2027. No data centre operator has been named.

Frequently asked questions

What is planned on the Lichterfeld-Schacksdorf airfield?
A 500 MW battery plant rated at 2,000 MWh with up to 150 MWp of solar, and a data centre of up to 500 MW planned alongside them.
Which parties are developing Project Jupiter?
WBS Power as developer and Prime Capital AG as asset manager, through a joint venture held by Jupiter JVCo S.à r.l. in Luxembourg. An operator for the data centre has not been appointed.
How would the Brandenburg site take its power?
From a 380 kV high-voltage line operated by 50Hertz, shared with the battery and solar assets on the same ground.
When is work expected to start at Project Jupiter?
Late 2026 or early 2027 for the energy assets, on the parties' own guidance. The data centre element is conditional and carries no separate construction date.
What scale of investment has been disclosed?
Around €500 million for the battery and solar assets. Nothing has been published for the data centre component.
