Avalon 1 is the interconnection core of the Caldera campus in Milan and the reason the Via Caldera address carries the highest IP-network density in Italy: 137 networks, six internet exchanges and eleven carriers are recorded in the building. The meet-me room is distributed rather than a single suite - 7,000 metres of 144-fibre cable running to four main nodes, one per building, and fifteen aggregation nodes. The facility itself is 8,900 sq m spread across four buildings at Via Caldera 21, 25 data rooms, 4.3 MW, with ground-floor loading of 1,500 kg per square metre and 48 VDC available; the wider Avalon campus reaches 13,000 sq m and more than 2,600 racks. Rack and half-rack space, custom cages and delimited areas, pre-cabling and Hands & Eyes are all sold here, on supply the operator states is entirely certified renewable through Sorgenia. The operating company is Retelit Datacenter S.r.l.; Irideos, whose name still appears on the campus site, was merged into Retelit on 1 August 2024. The Uptime Tier IV Design and ANSI/TIA-942 Rated 4 claims in Retelit's material belong to Avalon 3, not to this building.
