Serverfarm Chicago Data Center CH1
840 S Canal St, Chicago, IL, 60607, US
CH1 is Serverfarm's eight-story, 443,000 sq ft building at 840 South Canal Street in Chicago, built in the 1940s by General Electric as a factory, later Northern Trust's technology and operations center, and sold in January 2011 to a Serverfarm Realty and Red Sea Group venture for a $200 million conversion into a multi-tenant data center. The building draws 32 MW of utility power over 12 diverse feeds from four substations, supports 21.5 MW of IT load across 130,000 sq ft of data halls at 150 W per sq ft, and runs a central water-cooled chiller plant with waterside economizers at a PUE of 1.4. Thirteen carriers including Zayo, AT&T, Verizon, Cogent, Windstream, PacketFabric and Peerless Network land in two meet-me rooms fed from long-haul fiber tunnel ducts 55 feet below Canal Street, and five networks and two internet exchanges meet here. Buyers take cabinets, cages or a full hall managed through InCommand.
