AMS3 began as a logistics warehouse in Amsterdam Zuidoost and was converted into a data centre by Switch Datacenters in 2017. The operator runs it at a PUE of 1.15 on indirect adiabatic cooling and entirely renewable power, and is expanding it through 2026 to 7 MW in total, with a further 20 MW to deploy after that. Switch Datacenters is a Dutch company whose head office is at Polanerbaan 1 in Woerden, where it also runs AMS2; it has no connection to the Las Vegas operator that shares part of its name. The Tier 3+ label the company uses for AMS3 describes its design, and the Uptime Institute's register carries no Switch Datacenters award.
