The Bunker – Ash Data Centre
Ash Radar Station, Marshborough Road, Sandwich, Kent, CT13 0PL, GB
The Kent data centre Cyberfort trades as The Bunker is a Cold War artefact: the underground ROTOR-programme air-defence bunker at RAF Ash, now addressed as Ash Radar Station, Marshborough Road, Sandwich, Kent CT13 0PL, which the Ministry of Defence sold in July 1998. Cyberfort describes 3m thick concrete walls and solid steel blast doors; the fabric behind that is a double outer wall with a rubber layer between the skins, a reinforced concrete cap, and the whole structure bedded in sand, with right-angled corridors to break up blast, bulletproof glass doors and pole-mounted proximity sensors around the perimeter. Three MW reaches the site on dual feeds from separate sources, one of them a substation at Wingham, backed by three 750 kVA diesel generators and four days of fuel held on site. Cooling is two independent air-cooled systems, one chilled water and one direct expansion. Deployed racks average around 5 kW, and enquiries for AI work have run to 20 kW. At the end of 2025 the bunker was filled to roughly half its capacity.
