BCN1 opened in May 2026 as Digital Realty's first building in the Barcelona market, at Avinguda del Maresme 43 in Sant Adria de Besos, the municipality immediately north-east of the city. It provides 161,457 sq ft (15,000 sq m) with 14 MW of planned capacity, and it is the only Spanish building the operator runs that is not on 2N power: uninterruptible power is N+1 and cooling steps up to N+2. It holds LEED Gold, runs on 100 per cent renewable energy and uses HVO biodiesel rather than conventional fuel in its standby generators. The 2Africa and Medusa subsea systems land in Barcelona, and the cable landing station is about 300 metres away.
