PAIX was established here in 1996 in Digital Equipment Corporation's incubator labs as the first major carrier-neutral Internet exchange point; it passed through AboveNet and Metromedia Fiber Network, was bought out of bankruptcy by Switch & Data in 2003, and came to Equinix with that company in May 2010. The exchange still runs from this address as Equinix Internet Exchange Palo Alto, and 66 networks are present, Amazon, Apple, Alibaba and Comcast among them, more than at any other standalone Equinix building in Silicon Valley. The 26,296 sq ft colocation floor is the smallest of those four, with N+1 power, UPS and generators, under 30 hours of fuel, and N+1 cooling with decoupled dehumidification. With no on-site parking lot, it sells cabinets from 2 kVA, Secure Cabinet Express, private cages, Equinix Fabric and three exchanges.
