Three different Dublin buildings answer to the name DUB12, and only this one sits inside Microsoft's Grange Castle Business Park at Kilmahuddrick, Clondalkin: Vantage uses the same code at Grange Castle South and Digital Realty markets one in Clonshaugh. South Dublin County Council permitted it under SD16A/0088 as one of four halls with DUB09, DUB10 and DUB13, a phase costed at 900 million euro when it was announced. What sets this building apart within that group is what was later laid over it - permission granted on 4 December 2017 for a temporary three-year gas generator compound of 18 MW, sited across part of DUB12's own permitted footprint. That compound opened a much larger fuel switch: Microsoft Ireland Operations applied to the Environmental Protection Agency on 10 May 2021 and was licensed in July 2023 for on-site gas generation of roughly 170 MW, fed by two dedicated Gas Networks Ireland pipelines.
