Lyon County commissioners voted 3-1 on 6 August 2026 to rezone 505 acres at 150 and 155 Penrose Lane, outside Yerington, clearing the second of the approvals Copia Power needs for the Monarch campus; the land-use designation had already moved from agriculture to specific plan on 4 December 2025. Construction approval is still outstanding, and the developer has a year from the August vote to satisfy the conditions attached to it. The master plan runs to fourteen buildings and 4.6 million sq ft, with a first phase of 150 MW across two to four buildings, on-site battery storage and a natural-gas backup system of up to 500 MW. Delivery depends on NV Energy - specifically the Walker River substation complex and the Greenlink transmission build - over a horizon Copia has framed as five to ten years. Copia Power is a Carlyle Group-backed renewables developer founded in 2021 with 750 MW of generation operating and a load pipeline above 10 GW. No data centre operator or end user has been named for the site.
