QTS Chicago 1 DC1
2800 S. Ashland Ave, Chicago, IL, 60608, US
QTS Chicago 1 is the converted Chicago Sun-Times printing plant at 2800 South Ashland Avenue, a 317,000 sq ft building on a 30-acre riverfront campus in McKinley Park bought for $18 million in 2014 and opened on 1 July 2016 with 133,000 sq ft of raised floor and up to 24 MW. The former press halls needed little structural work, and a Kyoto Wheel thermal system gives the building a design PUE of 1.17. The campus now offers 42 MW, expandable to 125 MW; a 366,000 sq ft second building won Plan Commission approval in December 2024, but its construction permit was voided for inactivity in July 2026 and QTS has not refiled. DC1 is LEED Gold and ENERGY STAR certified. Four exchanges run here, DE-CIX Chicago, ChIX, MegaIX Chicago and FD-IX Chicago, with 14 networks on site. Leasable office space, flexible workspace and EV charging are on the campus for tenants taking cabinets, cages or halls in DC1.
