Midrand Data Park, Phase 1 is Vodacom's own building at Midrand in Gauteng, north of Johannesburg, and the one South African asset the group holds an Uptime Institute award for. That award is a Tier III Certification of Constructed Facility issued in December 2022, which attests the building as built rather than the drawings; the matching design-documents certification lapsed during 2021. The Phase 1 label anticipates further phases, and no award covers any of them. Vodacom Business buys its wholesale South African capacity separately, from Digital Parks Africa, under a partnership announced on 28 June 2021.

Frequently asked questions

Which Uptime Institute award covers the Midrand building?
Tier III Certification of Constructed Facility, issued to Vodacom (Pty) Ltd in December 2022 for Midrand Data Park, Phase 1.
What became of the Midrand site's design certification?
It expired in 2021. The December 2022 constructed-facility certificate is the live one, and it is the stronger of the two because it tests the building rather than the drawings.
Who uses Midrand Data Park?
Vodacom itself. The group runs the Gauteng building for its own network and enterprise platforms, and takes wholesale capacity from Digital Parks Africa where it needs third-party floor space.
How many phases at Midrand Data Park are certified?
One. Phase 1 holds the December 2022 certificate; the register shows nothing for a Phase 2.
