Netflix (AS2906) is the peering and backbone system Netflix runs at its own points of presence, and one of the largest single sources of downstream traffic on the internet. It is worth distinguishing from the system Netflix uses inside partner networks: appliances embedded in an access network run on a different autonomous system, so AS2906 in a building means Netflix interconnects there, not that appliances are hosted there.

Netflix sells no connectivity of any kind. Every form of interconnection is settlement-free, and Open Connect appliances are supplied free to qualifying networks — the operator provides two rack units, 350 to 700 watts and cross-connects per appliance, and Netflix ships the hardware pre-filled with regional content. The published gate for interconnection is simply shared presence at a location Netflix already occupies, on 10G or 100G long-reach ports, which makes the choice of building most of the decision for an access network chasing the offload. Netflix publishes no minimum traffic threshold and evaluates each request on the volume it already sees.
