MRS3 occupies base Martha, the German submarine pen built on the Marseille waterfront during the Second World War and left derelict for decades afterwards. Walls of 5.5 m reinforced concrete, designed to survive ten-tonne bombs, now enclose 7,100 sq m (76,000 sq ft) of data centre space, delivered across three phases from July 2020. The building is rated at 16.5 MW, the only load figure Digital Realty publishes for a Marseille address. It shares the Galerie de la Mer river cooling with the neighbouring port buildings, and its waterfront exposure required a corten steel outer structure to stand up to sea spray. The 2Africa submarine cable terminates at this building, one of the routes that makes the city a gateway between Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Eight compliance marks apply, including HDS.
