Enceinte Portuaire (MRS2)
Enceinte Portuaire, Porte 4, Marseille, 13015, FR
MRS2 sits inside the Grand Port Maritime de Marseille at Porte 4, in a former ship-repair workshop whose protected architecture had to be carried through the conversion intact. Floor area is 4,400 sq m (47,000 sq ft). Cooling comes from the Galerie de la Mer, a 19th-century tunnel dug to drain the Gardanne coal mines to the sea, which now delivers 15 degC water year-round through three kilometres of buried pipework to a bank of heat exchangers serving the port buildings — an arrangement that removes most of the mechanical chiller load and holds campus PUE near 1.2. Marseille is where European, African and Asian routes meet, and Digital Realty publishes access to fourteen major submarine cables from this campus. Seven compliance marks apply here, including HDS.
