VA3 is the largest building on the Reston campus and the only one publishing real rack densities: 35 to 40 kW per cabinet air-cooled, and 30 to 70 kW per cabinet on liquid. It opened in October 2019 on the former Sunrise Technology Park site and has expanded since, most recently with an 8 MW hall completed in November 2024 carrying native 400G AWS Direct Connect. The electrical design is the campus's most robust - N+2 generators, a four-to-make-three UPS configuration with a maintenance UPS, and true 2N distribution at PDU and RPP. Cooling runs 1,500-ton magnetic-bearing chillers in N+2 against a 4,500-ton plate-frame heat exchanger, with 120,000 gallons of harvested rainwater behind a 260,000-gallon main tank. Every customer here has been matched to 100% renewable energy through Dominion since November 2021, and the building is NVIDIA DGX-Ready certified.
